I can still remember my grandfather’s friends back in the early 1970s wearing these funny little hats. For the life of me I could not understand why they would wear such a goofy thing on their head. Little did I know at the time these funny hats were once the fashion rage and would be again 60 years later!
It seems lately many guys (and women as well) are now wearing the famous Fedora hat.
If you have been living under a rock you may not know what a Fedora hat is.
One way to get acquainted with this head piece is to watch an old movie or two!
And, not movies from the 1990s, but movies from the 1930s and 1940s!
Keep in mind that back in the ‘30s and ‘40s most men wore a double breasted suit and Fedora hat.
Think of Clark Kent from the 1950’s TV show Superman and that will give you a quick point of reference.
According to Wikipedia:
“Fedoras have become widely associated with gangsters and Prohibition, which coincided with the height of the hat’s popularity in the 1920s to early 1950s. In the second half of the 1950s, it fell out of favor due to a shift towards more informal clothing styles.
The fedora enjoyed a revival only a few years after its waning popularity, dating back to the mid-1970s. The fedora as a personal statement has made impacts on American and global culture: Indiana Jones popularized his fedora in the Indiana Jones franchise.”

But yet where once most men were not wearing hats at all now there is the occasional guy wearing this curious little hat!
Want to know the most famous movie character who constantly donned a fedora? It’s Indiana Jones!
