So you have just finished making a nice romantic dinner for your new lady friend and want to cap the dinner off with a nice espresso. What to do? You can get in your car and head to Starbucks… or, you could yet again impress her with your own espresso machine!
The Breville BES900XL Dual Boiler Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine definitely lives up to its big name. Whether you’re an espresso expert who can taste the slightest imperfection or you simply hate the idea of having a low-tier machine, the BES900XL is an automatic espresso-making powerhouse that surpasses expectations.
Some Excellent Points Concerning this Espresso Machine
The key here is precision.
Making quality espresso is an art, which is the reason behind the massive price range of espresso machines; not all machines have the precision of the BES900XL.
With its dual boilers and Italian pumps, this machine offers consistent results in every shot.
Consistency can be an issue in low-end espresso machines, and no one likes having to wonder whether or not the next shot will turn out right.
The BES900XL is capable of simultaneous espresso extraction and steaming, and can regulate its temperature to stay within one degree Celsius of the optimal temperature, giving you complete control over your technique.
Perhaps best of all, it can be set to automatically turn on and get going at a certain time, meaning it will always be ready and waiting for you when you wake up in the morning. It’s called the Lamborghini of espresso machines for a reason, after all.
Some Things to be Concerned About…
[easyazon-image align=”right” asin=”B005I722YC” locale=”us” height=”225″ src=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31OTsne84PL.jpg” width=”300″]Of course, every espresso machine has its drawbacks, and the BES900XL is no exception. The biggest inconvenience is that it has to receive maintenance every four or five years, and that means sending it in to the professionals.
[easyazon-cta align=”left” asin=”B005I722YC” height=”28″ key=”amazon-us-wide-orange” locale=”us” width=”176″] for HUGE SAVINGS!!
This maintenance costs anywhere from $60 to $100, which isn’t bad considering it’s only needed every few years, but when you add shipping costs and the risk of the machine being damaged in transit, the costs can be much greater. Even descaling has to be done by the professionals, whereas other machines can be descaled by the owner.
Unfortunately, even Breville doesn’t seem too confident in the BES900XL’s ability to withstand the test of time: the warranty only lasts one year. With some companies offering three year warranties on their machines, this doesn’t reflect a lot of confidence on Breville’s part.
All those electronic components inside the machine just give it more ways to malfunction, and while many users don’t report problems with the BES900XL, one must wonder why Breville doesn’t do more to stand by its product.
Should You Buy?
Despite these shortcomings, the Breville BES900XL is still a really cool espresso machine, and if you can afford it, it’s worth every penny. Not to forget, now the ladies will now want to come to your place to have their coffee!!
